Questions
The things
everyone asks.
Straight answers, including the ones that aren't in my favor. If your question isn't here, just ask me — I'll answer honestly even if it costs me the sale.
Getting started
How long does the whole thing take?
Most sites go live within seven days of the kickoff call. You'll spend about 45 minutes of your own time across the entire project — a 30-minute call, ten minutes of feedback on the preview, and five minutes approving the launch.
The single most common cause of delay is waiting on logos and photos. Send those at kickoff and I'm almost never blocked.
I don't have a logo or any good photos. Is that a problem?
Not at all — that's a normal starting point. I'll use high-quality licensed stock photography that fits your industry and build the design around it.
If you can send me even a few phone photos of your real work, your team, or your storefront, I'll use those instead. Real beats stock every single time, and customers can tell the difference.
What if I already have a website?
I'll rebuild it. Send me the address in the quote form and I'll tell you honestly whether it needs a full rebuild or just a refresh — sometimes the answer is "yours is fine, save your money."
When I do rebuild, I keep whatever's working: your existing copy, your Google rankings, your URLs. I set up redirects so nothing breaks or vanishes from search results.
Do you work with businesses outside my area?
Yes. Everything is done over email, phone, and video, so location doesn't matter. I work with businesses across the country.
Do I need to know anything technical?
No. You need to know your business. I'll ask questions in plain English, and you can give feedback the same way — "make the phone number bigger" is a perfectly good instruction. You will never be asked to pick a hosting plan or configure a DNS record.
Pricing & billing
Is the setup fee really the whole cost?
Yes, for the plan you pick. The one thing that isn't included is your domain name, which runs about $15/year and you buy directly so you own it. If you already have one, I'll use it.
Everything else — design, copywriting, build, hosting, SSL, support — is covered by the setup fee and the monthly. See the full "what isn't included" list on the pricing page.
How do payments work?
Half the setup fee to get started, half when the site goes live. The monthly plan begins the month after launch. I accept Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal.
What happens if I cancel the monthly plan?
Nothing dramatic. There's no contract and no cancellation fee. You keep your domain and all of your content — text, photos, logo, everything you gave me. I'll export a full copy of the site files and send them to you. Hosting, edits, and support stop at the end of your billing period.
What if I don't like what you build?
You see a private preview link before anything goes live, and you get two full rounds of revisions. Send notes in plain English and I'll keep working until it's right — that's exactly what the revision rounds are for.
Is there a discount for paying annually?
Yes — pay twelve months up front and get two of them free. Mention it when you request your quote and I'll include both numbers so you can compare.
The website itself
Do I own my website?
You own your domain name, your content, and your brand outright — always. The monthly fee covers hosting, maintenance, security, and support.
If you leave, I hand over the site files so you or another developer can host it elsewhere. There's no proprietary platform holding your business hostage.
Will I show up on Google?
I do the technical groundwork that makes ranking possible: fast load times, proper page titles and descriptions, structured data, a sitemap submitted to Google, mobile-friendly layout, and your Google Business Profile connected correctly. That reliably improves your position for local searches.
What I won't do is promise you the #1 spot for a competitive keyword. Anyone who guarantees that is guessing. If you want an aggressive ongoing SEO campaign, that's a separate conversation and I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth it for your business.
Can I add pages later?
Yes. New pages are quoted flat-rate before I start, so you always approve the number first. If you're regularly adding pages, moving up a plan is usually cheaper — I'll tell you when that math flips.
Why does page speed matter so much to you?
Two reasons, both about money. Google uses load speed as a ranking factor, so a slow site sits lower in results. And roughly half of mobile visitors abandon a page that takes more than three seconds — you paid to get them there and then lost them to a spinner.
I hand-build sites instead of using drag-and-drop page builders, which ship megabytes of code to display a phone number. It's the cheapest conversion improvement available.
Will my site work on phones?
It's designed for phones first, then adapted upward to tablets and desktops — not the other way around. Most local businesses see the majority of their traffic from mobile, and I test on real screen sizes before launch.
After launch
How many changes can I actually request?
Unlimited small edits — text changes, new photos, updated hours, price changes, adding a staff member, swapping a phone number. Anything that takes me under 20 minutes. Email or text me and it's done within 2 business days.
Bigger jobs — a whole new page, a redesign, a new booking system — aren't included, but I'll quote them at a flat rate before I start. You'll never get a surprise invoice.
How do I request a change?
Email or text me. That's the whole system. No portal login, no ticket number, no "please fill out this request form." Reply to any thread I'm already on and I'll handle it.
What if my site goes down?
Static sites like the ones I build have very little that can break — there's no database and no plugins to conflict, which is a large part of why I build them this way. The usual causes of a small business site going offline simply aren't there.
If something does go wrong, call or text me and I'll get on it.
Still have a question? Ask it on the quote form or call (270) 559-4048. I answer honestly, including when the answer is "you don't need me."
